Spirit History and Lore[]
The kitsunebi is a kaika (atmospheric ghost light) found in tales and legends of Japanese myth. This flickering light would appear at night and the number seen would sometimes be as high as several hundred. The color of the flame is generally red or orange, but there have been reports of those seeing a blue light. The kitsunebi is thought to be tied to a kitsune (fox) in that the ghostly light could be the breath or sighs of a fox or just its tail knocking together.
