The Kasha is a cat yōkai (demon) in Japanese mythology. It was known to steal the corpses from funerals or cemeteries due to the accumulation of evil deeds while alive. To protect the dead from a kasha, a guard kept watch over the body or a large rock was placed over the corpse to prevent the spirit from dragging the body out.
